Denark Construction is proud to announce the completion of the YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley renovation — an impactful project that blends historic preservation with modern construction excellence.

Originally constructed in 1925, the five-story, 43,200-square-foot building has long been a part of Knoxville’s architectural fabric. Through this project, Denark had the opportunity to restore the structure while preparing it to better serve the evolving needs of the community.

Preserving History While Building for the Future

Serving as Construction Manager at Risk, Denark led extensive renovations throughout the building, including the installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as upgraded lighting to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

A key priority throughout construction was maintaining the building’s historic integrity while introducing modern functionality. By balancing preservation with innovation, the project team ensured the space honors its past while remaining adaptable for future use.

Recognized for Excellence in Preservation

This commitment to thoughtful restoration was recently recognized with a Preservation Merit Award from Knox Heritage, an honor that highlights projects demonstrating outstanding dedication to preserving the character and history of Knoxville’s built environment.

The award reflects the strong collaboration between Denark Construction, YWCA Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley, and project partners who shared a vision for revitalizing this important community asset.

Designed for Community Impact

Beyond the building itself, the project includes a newly constructed secure, landscaped courtyard—creating a safe and welcoming outdoor space for those who rely on the YWCA’s services.

Every aspect of the renovation was guided by a larger purpose: supporting the YWCA’s mission to provide critical resources, safety, and support for women and families across the region.

Building Spaces That Matter

At Denark Construction, we believe projects like this represent the true impact of what we do—creating spaces that strengthen communities and improve lives.

We are honored to have partnered on a project that not only preserves a historic landmark but also expands opportunities for those it serves.
